Hello all! So today we began at 9am and went over to
Glide Memorial Church and helped pack lunches for people! Just to give you all an understanding, the focus of the Glide program is:
"A radically inclusive, just and loving community mobilized to alleviate suffering and break the cycles of poverty and marginalization." So our group along with another volunteer group from Colorado spent two hours making lots and lots of lunches. We all got to do different jobs like cutting up vegetables, to making and bagging sandwiches. It was a lot of fun and fulfilling - though I am very excited for tomorrow when we actually get to interact with the people we are serving - we will be back at Glide serving breakfast. After Glide, we ended up having mostly a free day, which was pretty sweet. Most of
us went to the district of Haight Ashbury, which had a bunch of cool shops. A bunch of us also took the bus to the Golden Gate Bridge, and some went to the ocean. :) For dinner, we met up back at the hostel and our group made yummy tacos for our group and the other San Francisco Catalyst group! Then our final event of the day was going to talk to someone from the San Francisco Night Ministry. Which is a program focused on providing meaningful and non-judgmental crisis intervention and counseling, pastoral care and referral services to individuals in need in the middle of the night every night of the year. (They haven't missed a single night!) It was really an awesome experience learning about the ministry and all they do.
Well, I guess it's time for bed! We have to be up in 6 hours to go serve breakfast!
